African Art Now! Exhibit Opening and Musical Program
02/08/2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Join us for music and refreshments during ARTWALK on February 8, 2019 from 6 - 9 PM and check out our new exhibit, “African Art Now!” on view through July 27, 2019.
This month’s ARTWALK will include a special musical performance featuring a guest from the Flint Symphony Orchestra. Their one-time musical response to “African Art Now!” will take place from 6 pm - 7 pm at MW Gallery.
Our current exhibit, “African Art Now!” features an array of dynamic artworks made between 1956 and 2018 by artists who defy our expectations of African art. The exhibit includes drawings, paintings, sculptures, photographs, prints, and video from the Mott-Warsh Collection, by emerging and leading artists, such as El Anatsui, Omar Victor Diop, Seydou Keita, Zaneli Muholi, Wangechi Mutu, Toyin Odutola, and Yinka Shonibare. These contemporary artists explore a variety of artistic approaches, materials, and themes to create artworks influenced by personal and communal interests, and global events.
Visit “African Art Now!” at MW Gallery to see compelling artworks that continue the legacy of Africa’s rich tradition of artistic expression.
